Plants
It is said that the only tool that you need to be a gardener in the Yucatan is a pair of serious pruning shears. The plant growth truly is beyond belief for a northerner, especially in the 4-5 month rainy season starting in June. During that time it is not unusual to haul 4 giant contractor size trash bags of plant waste out of our garden weekly. In particular, palm trees here are extraordinary. There are so many varieties! The coconut palm alone has over 80 named varieties in existence in the world. For photography, the interplay of light, shadow and wind on palm branches combined with the visual layering of the fronds create an infinite number of interesting photographic possibilities.
